Linux drivers for Industrial Touchscreens

Linux Tux in hardhatFor today’s post we will provide a quick overview of how Elo handles drivers for Linux systems.  We use Elo Accutouch resistive touchscreen sensors and controllers in almost all of our touch-enabled products, and Elo offers very robust support for the Linux platform.

Elo offers both pre-built installation packages for common Linux distributions, and source code for other distributions (or for anyone who would like to customize or modify the drivers).  All of this is available on the main Elo touchscreen driver page.  Once you accept their standard EULA, you are presented with a range of ready-to-run Linux drivers. As of this writing, the following was available:

  • Fedora – 7, 8
  • Fedora Core – 2, 6
  • OpenSUSE – 10.2
  • RedHat Enterprise Workstation – 4, updates 4, 5
  • Suse – 10.0, 10.1, and Suse Enterprise Desktop – 10, SP1 and SP2
  • Ubuntu – 6.10, 7.04, 7.10, 8.04

Most of these pre-built drivers include USB support only (no serial support).  This list is constantly expanded so check back if you don’t see your distribution.

For other distributions, or for anyone who would like to customize the touchscreen driver for a unique industrial touchscreen application, Elo also offers drivers for custom installation/build on a variety of kernels and processor architectures.  Both serial and USB drivers are available.  Visit the current Elo drivers page for a full list.
